A Birthday Blog
Aug 7, 2008
I am so grateful to the folks who have helped this to be a huge year. There is so much to be excited about. The opportunity to bring encouragement and laughter is such a fun way to live.
Focusing on others, loving and sharing is in itself a source of unexpected blessing. I did a gig a while back at Mackinaw Island, and while I was there I saw these two dudes sitting around playing guitars. I asked if I could join them, and we shared some songs with one another, and had an absolute blast.
Yesterday was my birthday and my wife Kathy took me out for breakfast, at a very busy local diner. After a delicious meal and wonderful conversation, all of a sudden, she stood up, and loudly got everyone’s attention in the whole entire restaurant. She then announced my birthday, and got everyone to sing to me. Although I was thoroughly embarrassed, I was absolutely blessed. That was such a gift to me, because Kathy came out of her natural comfort zone, to bless me. She thrilled the socks off me. Now I’m barefoot, but happy.
I hope I can just do that for folks. Encourage people, and encourage them to encourage people. Help people to help people. There is a great need for perspective in our day.
I have seen that simply bringing levity to a person or group can lift their mood to the roof, even lift their sense of what’s possible.
So laugh today, and then share it with someone else!
