I love my father! He is in so many ways my hero. Mom was always the Morgan Family Evangelist so to speak. Outspoken, funny, a goofball, often referred to as "Lucy." Dad was always content to hang in her shadow, the strong silent type...the "Wind Beneath her Wings."
When mom went to heaven a little over a year ago, who could know how it would effect dad. To the wonderful surprise of our friends and family, dad has taken on mom's mantle. He has come more alive in a fantastic way. He is friendlier, much more outgoing, he reaches out to strangers, and he never misses church.
He loves to discover that someone has a need, because he considers it a privilege to pray for anyone. At 88 years of age, he can still beat me at golf!
Here's an amazing kicker! Dad's birthday is on June 12th. Does that date sound familiar? No? "W's" own dad, George Herbert Walker Bush shares the same birthday! (Hey perhaps Dubya really is my brother!)
In another interesting twist of fate, my wife's dear friend Averil, who was instrumental in my meeting Kathy in the first place, and who we call mom, also shares June 12th as her birthday. And as if that were not enough, My friend Patsy Gilbert, the Sarah Palin impersonator, her dad's birthday is also June 12th, and his name is James(Jimmy) Carter!
