Presidential Pretender John Morgan Presides at GMA Week
May 5, 2006
Nashville, TN - John Morgan, billed as "the definitive" President George W. Bush impersonator, recently made a dramatic impression on the Christian music marketplace assembled in Nashville, Tenn. for Gospel Music Week. Morgan drew huge gasps and laughs throughout the week during an exhaustive schedule of high-profile appearances. The mayhem began at a Saturday evening radio dinner hosted by INO Records where Morgan, preceded by his Secret Service cadre, thanked the religious broadcasters for spreading the "Good News of liberty in Christ" in a similar manner that Radio Free Europe and The Voice of America brought truth to those living in darkness around the world.
On Sunday afternoon, Morgan made an executive visit to "The 8th Annual McCain & Co. Guitar Pull." In a hotel suite packed with media VIPs and such six-string luminaries as Grammy nominee and Dove Award winner Phil Keaggy, innovative designer of McPherson Guitars and Autumn Records recording artist Matt and Sherry McPherson, Music for Life Alliance founder, National Finger Picking Guitar Champion and classical guitar virtuoso Muriel Anderson, veteran guitarist, Grammy Award-winning producer and songwriter Tom Hemby and Dove Award-nominated Fervent Records singer/songwriter Andrew Peterson, the presidential imposter drew jaw-dropping responses to both his comedy and musical skills. Lifeway.com noted that John Morgan's appearance was one of the "highlights of the afternoon."
Tuesday, John Morgan entertained attendees at William Morris Agency's annual GMA Managers and Promoter's Luncheon, which included performances from such artists as Grammy-winning gospel duo Mary Mary and rock bands Kutless and Disciple. Charles Dorris, vice-president and head of Christian Music at the William Morris Agency in Nashville and Chairman of the Gospel Music Association (GMA) Board of Directors, introduced Morgan to the strains of "Hail To the Chief." Dorris commented that Morgan's appearance had produced an unprecedented response.
Throughout the day, Morgan met such dignitaries as VeggieTales' Larry Boy, Integrity Music President Jerry Weimer, Grammy Award winner Smokie Norful and EMI Gospel's President Ken Pennell. Later Tuesday evening, he hosted Dove Award-winning southern gospel favorites The Crabb Family's "Blur the Lines" Showcase, which also featured special guests Dove Award-winning group NewSong and Dove Award-nominated group The Katinas.
Backstage at The 37th Annual GMA Music Awards show, Morgan mingled with the likes of Grammy winners Jars of Clay and Kirk Franklin, as well as GMA President John Styll. Morgan's musical performance of his parody song, "The Red, White & Blues," during the pre-show event not only earned him the Industry's admiration, but a standing ovation as well. Following his performance, Morgan was whisked away to the media room where he was besieged with questions from attending press.
Morgan's Gospel Music Week 2006 appearances have already yielded wonderful new relationships and opportunities. He completed and scheduled major media interviews, confirmed performance appearances in the United States and Europe and has laid groundwork for many exciting partnerships.
John Morgan sums up this experience exclaiming, "I am blessed and amazed not only that the Lord would use my foolishness for His glory, but that during the week I was able to meet so many of the artists and leaders who have meant so much to my spiritual growth through the years."
